Work In Progress

A good friend of mine told me a long time ago that it's ok to have several projects going on at the same time and to work on them simultaneously, up to that moment, I felt as though I HAD to finish what I was working on and if I'd forgotten something, I was somehow not allowed to go back to it. I don't know where I'd gotten that idea or why I needed somebody to kind of "give me permission" just by saying it. Since then, I've been much more ok, with that: Finding really old work and going back to it, working on it and finishing it, having plenty of things going on at the same time. It makes me feel much more productive and as though I have much more freedom.
Several times, it's happened, that I have several pieces on paper, waiting to be worked on and I take out the colored pencils and watercolors and I work on them one by one, within that same period of time. It's like I'm a little factory! =D
SO, these are some of the things I've been working on, a couple of them are finished:
1. "T Tree"
9 x 12 inches
Pencil on Paper

This piece will belong to a girl named Tiffany. It's a gorgeous tree of some kind, she wants it for a tattoo.
I love it, it's gorgeous! <3

2. Work @ Relic Bar
There's a bar here called Relic, they have an artist go there every Thursday, make a painting live and then the painting is up for silent auction for six weeks and 10% of the price goes to charity. It was my turn on Thursday, June 17th and it was a really great experience and I think I'd like to do it again, sometime in the future. So here's pictures of the piece and here's a link to the album in Facebook, if you want to see some more pictures =D And while you're at it, you can like the page, so you'll be updated with my work =D!

3. Something
Yes, something, as I'm not quite sure what this is, except that I used newspaper to cover the piece of wood and then I glued the little canvases on and I don't know where I want it to go, except maybe paint certain body parts on them. So far, I only have those two eyes. EITHER WAY, I like it! It will probably be somewhere around USD500.00.

4. Pet Portrait
14 x 18 inches
Oil on canvas

This piece will be bought soon by some very dear friends. It's probably the first time ever that I've seriously painted animals and I have to say I'm real proud of myself! This one is taking me a while, precisely, because I'm not familiar with painting/working on animals at all, but I think it's headed in a good direction and with some more work, it will be a great piece very soon!

SO YEAH! That's what's been going on lately! The Facebook page is doing really great and I update it often with pictures of stuff that I'm working on, little status messages and things, so you should really drop by, like the page and suggest it to your friends! Gabriela Handal Arte!!!
And if it's the first time that you're reading my blog, thank you so much for reading it and go ahead and follow, so you can keep updated with my work! =D

Fairy with bee wings

- I finally finished another piece. Painting always takes me so much longer than drawing, but these days I've been a diligent little bee and I finished this one relatively quickly.
And this little thing is small, strange and I get some animosity from her face and eyes, but I love the shit out her and the strange colors and texture within her 10 x 12 inch frame <3
It's called "Fairy with bee wings". Don't ask me why her background looks like really thick smoke or why she has bee wings; the only thing that was clear about her when I started her, were her skin, eye color and hair, other than that, I had no idea the wings would be bee wings and I was completely lost about the background.
Although I like her eyes, I think what I like most are her lips and the wings. I'm really proud of the wings, they look beautiful.
So yeah, here you have her: "Fairy with bee wings", I think I'll put her up for sale at like USD250.00 :hmm
1. Full picture. I think I'm going to do the usual and get some regular wood, paint it black with the acrylics and frame it nice like. They always look so beautiful and complete when I frame them <3

2. Detail of face and wings. Really proud of that little mouth <3

3. Another detail of wings and face, a bit closer now.

- In the two art exhibits in December, I sold a piece in each <3 I hardly made back the money I paid to put the pieces in one of the art exhibits, but it doesn't matter. I sold "V", a good and fond friend bought it.

And I sold one of the five little drawings, the one called "I will be a beautiful rebel", to some dude that was super awesome enough to write to me in facebook and tell me. Srsly, it made my day/week/year/life:
Como estas Gaby, mi nombre es Rodrigo, tebusque en el facebook solo paera decirte que soy el feliz poseedor de un Handal hecho a lapiz, si mi memoria no me falla(la tengo en la oficina) se llama I am a beautiful Rebel o algo asi ..... quiero decirte que desde la vi donde Analissa me gusto asi que ahora esta en mi pequeño cubiculo mirandome con sus extraños parpados en formas de alas...... Que estes muy bien !!

Rodrigo

He says he looked for me in facebook just to tell me that he's the happy owner of a pencil made Handal piece :lol
And that from the moment he saw it, he liked it and now he has it in his cubicle, looking at him with his strange lids shaped like wings.
PFT. BEST FEELING EVER. :die

- And I'm algo going to participate in another art exhibit for female art. I haven't decided what piece I'm going to put there yet, but yeah <3
