Work In Progress

A good friend of mine told me a long time ago that it's ok to have several projects going on at the same time and to work on them simultaneously, up to that moment, I felt as though I HAD to finish what I was working on and if I'd forgotten something, I was somehow not allowed to go back to it. I don't know where I'd gotten that idea or why I needed somebody to kind of "give me permission" just by saying it. Since then, I've been much more ok, with that: Finding really old work and going back to it, working on it and finishing it, having plenty of things going on at the same time. It makes me feel much more productive and as though I have much more freedom.
Several times, it's happened, that I have several pieces on paper, waiting to be worked on and I take out the colored pencils and watercolors and I work on them one by one, within that same period of time. It's like I'm a little factory! =D
SO, these are some of the things I've been working on, a couple of them are finished:
1. "T Tree"
9 x 12 inches
Pencil on Paper

This piece will belong to a girl named Tiffany. It's a gorgeous tree of some kind, she wants it for a tattoo.
I love it, it's gorgeous! <3

2. Work @ Relic Bar
There's a bar here called Relic, they have an artist go there every Thursday, make a painting live and then the painting is up for silent auction for six weeks and 10% of the price goes to charity. It was my turn on Thursday, June 17th and it was a really great experience and I think I'd like to do it again, sometime in the future. So here's pictures of the piece and here's a link to the album in Facebook, if you want to see some more pictures =D And while you're at it, you can like the page, so you'll be updated with my work =D!

3. Something
Yes, something, as I'm not quite sure what this is, except that I used newspaper to cover the piece of wood and then I glued the little canvases on and I don't know where I want it to go, except maybe paint certain body parts on them. So far, I only have those two eyes. EITHER WAY, I like it! It will probably be somewhere around USD500.00.

4. Pet Portrait
14 x 18 inches
Oil on canvas

This piece will be bought soon by some very dear friends. It's probably the first time ever that I've seriously painted animals and I have to say I'm real proud of myself! This one is taking me a while, precisely, because I'm not familiar with painting/working on animals at all, but I think it's headed in a good direction and with some more work, it will be a great piece very soon!

SO YEAH! That's what's been going on lately! The Facebook page is doing really great and I update it often with pictures of stuff that I'm working on, little status messages and things, so you should really drop by, like the page and suggest it to your friends! Gabriela Handal Arte!!!
And if it's the first time that you're reading my blog, thank you so much for reading it and go ahead and follow, so you can keep updated with my work! =D

Heroes and Villains

I've had in mind for a good while now to make a series of illustrations of heroes and villains, some of them that I really like and a couple that I don't particularly care for, but I know are super popular.
The only one's that's gotten on paper so far has Catwoman, but in line and upcoming are: Black Widow, X-23, Elektra, Aeon Flux, Kabuki, Poison Ivy, Rogue, Storm (<3), Phoenix, Mystique, Wolverine, Gambit, Magneto, Emma Frost, Spiderwoman, Vampirella, Iron Man, Witchblade, Hulk, SheHulk, Angel. Maybe I could do Lara Croft, too, now that I think about it.
It's a long term project and it will take a while, but either way, I wanted to show off what I've done with Catwoman, even if I haven't touched her in a while, 'cuz I have difficulty working with architecture LOL
Here's the two that I've done of Catwoman <3
1. Very nice and all.

2. This one's my favorite, can you tell? XD I really like how she's turning out and sometimes when I like something a lot I slow down a bunch more, 'cuz I'm afraid I'll mess it up. And well, I made the mistake of working on the background last, so even more x_x
Either way, I only have ONE Catwoman comic and I'm not a really big comic book nerd or anything, so I don't know that much about her; but I DO know that she's some kind of an antihero and she's not really on anybody's side, but hers and doesn't really mean any harm. And in this image, I seriously like how her facial and body expression turned out: You catch her in a chilled moment, she looks really comfortable in her "habitat" and she gives you some kind of friendly, but distant look.

- BTW, there is never enough of this, but: LIKE in facebook Gabriela Handal Arte and suggest to people, too!
