Mandinka

As stated in the previous blog entry "Mandinka.", it's a Sinèad O'Connor song that I seriously like and my image of what the song means to me was first me as I made myself up in this picture, rather than the drawing and the drawing was channeling that image until I was able to do a self-portrait. 'Cuz, you know, I hadn't gotten the mohawk.

Either way, here's the mental image of Mandinka, pretty much exactly as she was in my mind's eye.

"Butterfly Face" v. 2.0 and 3.0

I'm working on two other "Butterfly Face"s that I started last night. The profile one is my favorite of all three and for these last two, I'm using as model the wings of that butterfly that uses owl eyes to intimidate predators.

Right now they're only pencil and colored pencil over paper, but there's probably going to be some watercolor in there sometime soon, they complement each other well.

This one's "Butterfly Face 2"

And this one's "Butterfly Face 3", their numbering based on the order in which they were drawn, first was the three quarters one, then the profile one and then the front one.

That's all for now! See how much I've been posting? Ain't you proud of me? XD
Here's my Facebook page that I would seriously like it if you liked and suggested to all of your friends, because the more the merrier <3 Gabriela Handal Arte

Butterfly Face

I finished this drawing yesterday and I'm pretty proud of myself, because I finished relatively quick: Two days.
The title "Butterfly Face" reminds me of the expression "butter face" lol

Either way, "Butterfly face" is 8 x 10 inches, pencil, colored pencil and watercolor over paper and she is for sale at USD40.00.

Here she is!

I hope you like her and remember that I have a page in Facebook you should like if you haven't yet! Here's the link: Gabriela Handal Arte

Mandinka.

Finished and sealed this drawing last night.
It's titled "Mandinka", based on a Sinèad O'Connor song of the same name. Supposedly, the song is based on a book called "Roots" and it's some kind of historical novel that has to do with the Mandinka people in Africa.
I have no intention of reading the book and the drawing is more what the song means to me. Specially the lyrics: "I don't know no shame, I feel no pain, I can't see the flame", which are pretty great, if you ax me.
The drawing is 10 x 14 inches, pencil, colored pencil, watercolor and acrylic over paper <3
